Hi, my name is Laurice and I have been baking for as long as I can remember. I started as most did, with my
little toy light bulb oven in my family's living room and now I wish I had a whole kitchen of commercial ovens
to bake in!! My family is full of bakers and great cooks. It must be in my blood because it's what I think about
all the time. I cook for my family and I can even put together multi-coursed gourmet meals but my passion is
baking desserts.
After my first daughter was born, I entered my baking in local contests, just for fun. I won three first place
prizes for my pies in Napa, 2 from a 4th of July Pie contest and one from a competion they had at the Friday
Chef's Market. At the 2005, L.A. County Fair I won first place for my apple cake and biscuits and second
place for my apple pie and Mexican wedding cookies. In 2006, I entered a competition for tamales which I
had just learned how to make. I won second place for my goat cheese and portabella mushroom tamales. In
2008, I won "Best in Presentation" at Soroptomist International of Riverside's Valentine's Day "Battle of the
Bakers".
I remember how excited and honored I was when a friend came to me to make her wedding cake. I had
never made a large cake like that before but she trusted me. She found a picture of a cake with sugar paste
roses all over it. I didn't even know what sugar paste was let alone how to hand craft roses out of the stuff!!
I built over 38 sugar paste roses petal by petal. That cake, pictured below, turned out exactly like the picture
and tons of people came up to me and told me it was the best wedding cake they had ever tasted!!
The catalyst for this website and then my business is actually pretty funny. A friend called and asked me to
make her some cookies and send them to her. I thought it was a little strange given she lives in Milwaukee.
Well, she's a urologist so, for now, use your imagination. I set about this project a little embarrassed about
what I was creating. But they turned out awesome. They were a HUGE hit. Everyone thought they would
make the perfect Bachelorette Party Favor. So I thought I could make a business of selling them online,
hence the website. Once I started working on the website and creating those pages I realized that what I
really want to do was custom cakes.
So after all these years I am turning my passion and my talent into something that will help out my family. To
me...it does not get any better than working at something you truly love and enjoy. I am pleased and excited
to offer my services to you through my very own business, Sweet Moments Dessert Company, offering
delicious custom cakes from my heart to your table. I'm located in Corona, California and if you live here or
are planning a special event in any of the surrounding areas of the Riverside, Inland Empire or Southern
California, I would love to make something special for Your Sweet Moment...
